Trusted Compliance

Joy Global

Energy Solutions

Joy Global approached EIC’s Carbon Solutions Team back in 2010 to better understand their emissions and ensure compliance with carbon legislation.

At the time, the company was required to comply with the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Scheme and since then we have assisted them with their transition to SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting).

As a large manufacturer of mining machinery, Joy Global must now comply with ESOS and SECR. With four manufacturing sites, plus a transport fleet, collating this data is no easy feat. To take the hassle out of their carbon management they decided to outsource this service – freeing up valuable time, money and manpower.

The Solution

We have extensive experience supporting complex organisations, such as Joy Global, with their carbon compliance requirements. Our proven methodology ensures accuracy and efficiency throughout. We start by assigning a dedicated Carbon Consultant and Analyst to Joy Global. This allows us to draw upon the different specialisms and expertise in our team, so we can deliver an enhanced service tailored to the needs of the business.

Our Carbon Solutions Team began by collecting consumption data for Joy Global’s sites and transport fleet. We already held meter and consumption data as we also provide them with our Fixed Energy Procurement service. This meant that we could speed up elements of the data gathering process. We were then able to identify areas of significant energy usage and advise on the most appropriate compliance route.

Based on Joy Global’s requirements, we established that energy audits would be the best route to compliance. Our ESOS Lead Assessor led audits covering more than 90% of the organisation’s energy usage (as specified within the ESOS legislation).

Our work enabled Joy Global to submit their ESOS Phase 2 compliance on time, avoiding fines and costly reputational damage. Following ESOS recommendations and becoming more energy efficient also resulted in savings of more than £150,000.

We continue to work with Joy Global on its SECR compliance, ensuring that their accounts can be fully audited and published on schedule. The ESOS Phase 2 Energy Savings Opportunities that we identified can also support the Energy Efficiency Statement requirements for SECR. This ensures year-on-year efficiencies within Joy Global, supporting emission reductions across their portfolio.

Our expertise and dedicated resources for carbon legislation allows our client to focus on their business objectives – EIC handles the complexity of compliance.
