Indicative NTS charge to apply from 1 April 2012

EIC Energy Market Analysts - November 2011

Transmission System Operator (TSO), National Grid, has provided notice of its intention to increase gas National Transmission System (NTS) charges from April 2012. NTS charges tend to make up a smaller proportion of gas transportation charges than those linked to the use of the distribution network
The net impact of the changes based on current NTS charges is expected to be marginal – around a two per cent increase on average. The focus of the change is on the commodity element of the NTS charge. In summary, the variations are;

  • NTS TO Commodity will be increased by 12 per cent to 0.0259 p/kWh
  • NTS SO Commodity will be cut by 10 per cent to 0.0221 p/kWh

National Grid are blaming an expected cut in entry capacity auction revenue as well as the continued impact of an error at the main Aberdeen meter for the changes. National Grid's licence conditions require it to provide at least 150 days notice of changes in charges. The final charges will be published at the start of February 2012.
